Our Father's Love...a mother's son

I remember seeing the Passion of the Christ when it first came to movie theatres and just sobbed through so much of it. What became so real to me in the images of this movie was this mother, Mary, who carried this child, watched him grow, loved him with the kind of love that only a mother knows, protected this child as only a mother can, and then watched him die on the cross--I'm sure all the while feeling so helpless. The look on her face and in her eyes will forever be etched in my mind.

"Behold, your son"...even though He was God's son, He was Mary's little boy. There are no words to describe a parent's pain when their children suffer. I can only imagine the hopelessness she felt, and the disciples felt, as He lay in the tomb.

This was their Savior, their Master, their eternal hope, but also a friend, a brother, a son. He took on the sins of the world, past, present and future, as He suffered and died on that cross. He did it for me, He did it for you.

That's how great the Father's love for us is...

11 sweet friends had to say...:

That's wierd. I could have sworn I left a comment on here late last night, and that Kathy had also left one. I wonder where they went??

I guess the comment thief took them!!

When I saw this movie, I understood what I'd always somewhat paused at, the passage that says, "The Father turned away". I don't think I ever truly understood that this was such a horrific death that even God would turn away from seeing it until I saw The Passion of The Christ movie. Then to try and fathom that someone could love me so much as to do it for me. What amazing love! Agape love.

Jean-I was having trouble posting, and had to re-post, maybe it was on the other one. Sorry! It was right away--back to back--and it didn't show any comments. This thing acts strange sometimes!

Nspired, I agree, it was hard to watch and I'm sure the movie only barely depicted the pain and agony He went through for us.

Jean is right. I left a comment right after hers.

Tracey, thanks for posting this video although it was most difficult to watch. The music was awesome too.

My son, Eric, gave everyone in our family the Passion of the Christ DVD a few Christmases ago. I haven't watched it yet. I know I should, but I haven't been able to yet. I've heard it's VERY hard to watch.

Happy Easter!

Great post and thanks for the video AND Sandi Patti's song...they went together perfectly. What amazed me about the movie is how everything I've read in the Bible just 'came to life'...so many things were like I had pictured in my head and heart. I agree though (with nspired by faith) that as much as it came to life, I also do not think I truly realized how horrific His death was until I saw it in front of me. It absolutely gave me a new perspective and a REAL sense of unworthiness. Thanks again for the post and the video.

Now back to the comment I left last night!

I LOVE that Sandy Patti song, and put together with the scenes from the movie, it is even more powerful.

I did not see the video when it came out three years ago. But I did buy the DVD. However, I did not watch it until this past January when I took a weekend alone for prayer and fasting. I was REALLY glad I was alone when I watched it. It had a profound effect on me.

I do believe that having seen it helped me to better teach the meaning of the lyrics in the song "How Deep the Father's Love" this spring. How humbling to sing the words, "Ashamed I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers" after having seen the glee with which those scoffers tortured Him. And the sight of His precious, powerful blood just splashed all over the place is something I will never forget. I hope I never get over what He did for me at the cross.
