Never know what the day ahead holds...

I always harp on Zack to be sure to tell me "goodbye" in the mornings. Usually he's busy getting ready and sometimes I'm busy getting ready and occasionally I hear the door slam without being able to tell him goodbye. In the past couple of weeks, I've been trying to break him of this and emphasize to him that we never know what the day ahead holds for us. I've told him that we always want to be sure to say "I Love You" and "have a good day" when we go our separate ways in the mornings because it could be the last moment we have together.

Tonight my heart is breaking for a girl who left her parents this morning to go to school and never will return home to sit at the dinner table with them again. Her name was Katie. She turned 16 on February 5th. She used to go to our school and played in our marching band with Zack. Her father was our football coach, but took a job in another school just this year. Katie was a Sophomore in her first year at a new school. That school was Enterprise High School. She lost her life today in the tornado that destroyed her school. I'm sure this morning, when she was deciding what to wear, fixing her hair and brushing her teeth, she thought this would be just "another day" in her High School.

I cannot even begin to imagine the pain her parents are feeling right now. Please pray for them (Dirk and Kathy) every time you think about it, or see a report on the news. Below are some pictures of Katie. The first one is of her in the band (last year) and my son, Zack. The other is a more recent picture of her.

Oh, Tracey, that just hits me. I WILL be praying for them and all the other people who were affected today by that tornado. How very, very sad. What a beautiful girl.

When I heard about that school tonight on the news, I thought about you and wondered if you would know anyone there. I am sorry that you did. That is an incredibly sad story and I totally understand the feeling you are describing. You are so very right about not knowing what a day can hold and saying all that we need to say to friends and family. It certainly makes it easier when 'that time' comes when you KNOW the other person knew how you felt, although with a child, I don't know that it would ever really be easy! I will definitely keep them in my prayers as well. Do they have other children and did any of them go that same school? I am just curious.

What a beautiful girl! How awful for, I'm sure, a LOT of families. I hadn't heard anything about it as I rarely watch the news other than to check the weather. I will lift up this family today for sure! I can't even imagine losing one of my children like that. Do you know if she knew Jesus? How is your son doing with it? I'll pray for him and the other kids that are dealing with this loss as well. Such a sad thing.

I was thinking about all of you in the South yesterday when the weather picture came up on my computer. Even the weathermen were freaked out!

We are so sorry about Zack's friend. She was a beautiful young lady!

I am just devastated over this poor school. We went and picked our kids up from school earlier than the 'let out' time just because in weather like that, I don't want to chance them not being with me. I can't fathom how I'd get over my child needing me and my not being able to be there for them.

Father God, hold these children close and their families closer.

I was so busy yesterday that I didn't hear the news about this high school until we met friends for dinner last night and they were telling us about it. It just made me sick at my stomach...every parents nightmare. Then, this morning when I saw the coverage on Good Morning America, it made me even more sad. What a terrible disaster. I will include this family and the entire school family in my prayers. I know this must really hit Zach hard, so I will also pray for him.
